To David Scott Talaga and Michelle Rigolizzo, on their wedding anniversary

  • Program Note:

Scherzo was commissioned by Juventas New Music Ensemble and Michelle Rigolizzo and dedicated to David Scott Talaga and Michelle on the occasion of their first wedding anniversary. The work was designed to be a surprise, and I thought it would be a wonderful idea for the work to be a depiction of David "in sound". So I asked Michelle to tell me about David, and this is what she shared:

"To start, he is a professor of chemistry and the most curious person I've ever met. He just loves to understand the world. He also loves opera and has had a subscription to the Metropolitan Opera for many years now. He is an accomplished swing dancer and loves food and wine. He is an incredibly hard worker and bit like the stereotypical professor - lots going on!"

The term scherzo roughly translates to "playful, jokingly, light-hearted, in jest" -- and this is my own playful attempt at depicting David in music and my own wish for them to have many happy years together!
