Macalester Concert Choir * Michael McGaghie, conductor * Mindy Eschedor, piano. World premiere recording of "My Harbor, My Home" with music by Dominick DiOrio and text by Jacqueline Goldfinger. Recorded on December 2, 2023 at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota.
commission and dedication
Commissioned by and dedicated to the Macalester Concert Choir and conductor Michael McGaghie.
composer's note
My Harbor, My Home is commissioned by and dedicated to the Macalester Concert Choir and conductor and my friend Michael McGaghie—the third such work that I have created for him, after You Do Not Walk Alone and The Ghost’s Story. Whereas the first two works were at times poignant and mysterious, lush and ephemeral, this new work wears its heart on its sleeve, with joy unabashed. Setting a short text by Philadelphia-based poet and dramaturg Jacqueline Goldfinger, the music is teaming with optimism and possibility, with assurance and comfort. This is music for a time of rebirth, for a new chapter of hope. Hallelu, Hallelujah! June 2023
text
Sanctuary by Jacqueline Goldfinger
My harbor, my home. In the sea you split, in the heart you honed, Twines silent strength within. You, Seeker. We, Ones who seek. Hallelu. Hallelu. Hallelu. Hallelu. Hallelu. Hallelujah.
