Interested in commissioning a new work?

The creation of new music is a gift like no other and bringing a new composition into the world is an exciting process for performers, listeners, and the composer.

I enjoy nothing greater than the chance to create new music that moves people and communicates something worth sharing with others. For me, commissioning begins with a conversation, where I have the opportunity to learn about your specific hopes and dreams for the new work. This may include a discussion of musical and thematic ideas, texts, your organization's structure and mission, how the work will be received by your performers and audience, and many other factors.

The cost of commissioning new music is one of these factors, and it varies widely and is dependent upon many things, including:

  • Duration / length (in minutes)
  • Scope (size of performing forces)
  • Composition timeframe (deadline for final score, etc.)
  • Consortium commission (with multiple organizations)
  • Text permissions
  • Parts / Piano-Vocal score (for choral and large ensemble & opera)
  • Travel expenses to attend the premiere

Cost is just one small part of the very exciting process that is creating new music. I recently completed a guide to commissioning for conductors who want to create a new work. I recommend it as an introduction to the commissioning process if you want to learn more.

Whatever your vision, I am ready to help make it a reality for you and the people you serve with your music.
